SCH4U — Grade 12 Chemistry (Ontario)

SCH4U is Ontario's Grade 12 university-preparation chemistry course, following The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 11–12: Science (2008). This page is your map: each of the five units below links straight to the ChemistNate notes that cover it. If you took SCH3U first, you already know the foundations — stoichiometry, bonding, and gas laws — that this course builds on.

How to use this page: find your current unit, open its notes, work the examples, then try the practice problems at the bottom of each page. Every page on this site is free to use and share.

Unit 1: Structure and Properties of Matter

Atomic theory, quantum numbers, periodic trends, chemical bonding, molecular shapes, and intermolecular forces.

Unit 2: Energy Changes and Rates of Reaction

Enthalpy, Hess's law, entropy, free energy, and how fast reactions run.

Unit 3: Chemical Systems and Equilibrium

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Châtelier's principle, acids and bases, buffers, and solubility.

Unit 5: Electrochemistry

Oxidation numbers, redox half-reactions, galvanic and electrolytic cells, and standard cell potentials.

Coming from SCH3U? The Grade 11 foundations — stoichiometry, aqueous reactions, gases, and atmospheric chemistry — are on the site too, if you need a refresher.
